Health & Safety Bulletin - H1N1 Flu Virus

May 5, 2009

We recognize that given the widespread media coverage of the H1N1 Flu Virus (Swine Flu), the majority of you are aware of the recent outbreak and may be concerned. To date there have been 140 reported cases of the H1N1 Flu Virus in Canada. It is important to note that the majority of these cases have been mild, meaning that infected individuals did not require hospitalization and recovered within a few days.

Please be aware that we are monitoring the World Health Organization (WHO) and Health Canada websites on a regular basis, and are prepared with a Pandemic Plan in the event that the H1N1 Flu Virus escalates to that level in Canada. We recommend that you educate yourself and your family on the H1N1 Flu Virus and follow preventative steps as outlined by the Public Health Agency of Canada below:

• Wash hands thoroughly with soap and warm water, or use hand sanitizer
• Cough and sneeze in your arm or sleeve
• Get your annual flu shot
• Keep doing what you normally do, but stay home if sick
• Talk to a health professional if you experience severe flu-like symptoms
• Check www.fightflu.ca for more information
• Check http://www.voyage.gc.ca for travel notices and advisories
